Agricultural Productivity: New Conventions To Boost Value Chains

The conventions between government and three partners for the implementation of the Agricultural Value Chain Development Project was signed on September 25.

Collaboration protocols have been signed between the Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (AVC-DP) on the one hand and its technical partners on the other.

The technical partners for the implementation of the project include the PNDCF (National Project for the Development of Fruit Crops), UNEXPALM (Cameroon Union of Palm Oil Farmers) and RHORTICAM (Network of Horticultural Industry Operators in Cameroon).

The agreements were signed in Yaounde on September 25, 2018. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, signed on behalf of AVC-DP which is placed under the supervisory authority of his Ministry.

The agreements pave the way for the implementation of the AVCDP; a five year project funded to the tune of FCFA 75 billion by the African Development Bank to improve value chains in three sectors - palm oil, pineapple and banana/ plantain. The protocol signed between the AVC-DP and PNDCF requires the latter to use and promote in vitro propagation of banana and plantain.

PNDCF also undertook to promote the processing and commercialisation of processed products in the sector and facilitate access to finances for farmers in the sector as well. It is also the duty of the technical partner to build capacities of farmers and processing industries in the banana/ plantain sector.
