Japan-Cameroon: Outgoing Ambassador Decorated

Kunio Okamura was made Commander of National Order of Valour on September 27.

The Minister, Secretary General at the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, on behalf of the Head of State, President Paul Biya, chaired a sendoff dinner organized in Yaounde on September 27, 2018 in honour of the Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, Kunio Okamura.

The diplomat was conferred the medal of Commander of National Order of Valour in the ceremony which was marked by toasts from both personalities. The representative of the Head of State took a trip down memory lane, recounting strides covered so far in the history of bilateral relations between Cameroon and Japan.

He recalled that Japan demonstrated an unprecedented level of resilience by catapulting itself to the rank of world’s second greatest economy barely three decades after a devastating World War. He said it is for this reason and other factors that the country remains a model to Cameroonians. Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh noted that Ambassador Kunio Okamura in his three years stay in Cameroon, strengthened relations between the two nations, supporting Cameroon in the domain of politics, socioeconomic development, security, education and humanitarian issues.
