Their intention to participate in the twin elections is contained in a press release signed by the National Chairman of the party, John Fru Ndi on November 11, 2019.
Doubts have been clarified and the dust settled as the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party has made it public that it will be participating in the February 9, 2020 legislative and municipal elections convened by the President of the Republic on November 10, 2019. Despite abstaining from the opening plenary sitting of the November session in Parliament, the party Chairman has issued a press release encouraging party members to compile their documents for the said elections. The release therefore puts to rest the uncertainty as to whether the leading opposition party will be taking part in the election process of the people’s representatives.

Going by the release, incumbent Parliamentarians who wish to rerun in the elections can compile their documents as well as duly registered and qualified members who are interested in contesting in the elections. “In my capacity as the Chairman of the Investiture Committee and having regards to the exceptional circumstances in which we find ourselves, I hereby grant investiture with a right to revision, to all existing members of the National Assembly and instruct them to compile their candidature files accordingly. I hereby also direct that all existing and duly invested Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Municipal Councillors should as well compile their candidature files,” partly reads the communique.
