Adhering To Voices That Matter

Positive-thinking Cameroonians and friends of the country are no doubt at a loss on how a war as senseless as what has been ongoing in the North West and South West Regions could rage on for this long. As a matter of fact, from the time grievances of teachers trade unions of English subsystem of education and those of Common Law Lawyers spiralled into generalised disorder in the two English-speaking Regions, very few people saw the upheavals moving from 2016 to 2020, yet unabated.  
Inhabitants of the two regions have been subjected to outright suffering owing to the insecurity therein. Teaching and learning have been greatly perturbed and economic activity almost brought to knee level. In effect, there is fear of the unknown which makes any development difficult. A battery of already taken government heart-soothing measures are yet to restore the much needed peace and tranquillity the Regions experienced until end of 2016. 
Those clamouring for separation, whom government has qualified as sellers of illusion, apparently thought they could rely on the international community to sail through with their secessionist agenda. Clear positions might have taken long for some to come but from the look of things, the ‘struggle’ as perpetrators qualify the battle, has lost its sting. 
Valuable multinational organisations like the African Union, the United Nations, the Commonwealth, Francophonie and giant nations such as the United States of America, China, and Russia… have stated their commitment to support an indivisible Cameroon. Their approach to solving the violent problem might differ but they all agree that Cameroon needs to stay strong and above all united so as to strive for prosperity that benefits all and sundry. 
A recent outing is that of the US Under Secretary for African Affairs, Peter Tibor Nagy. In a trending video, the US diplomat recently told abroad-based leaders of separation movement in Cameroon that, « The United States supports a unified Cameroon » and that « the last thing Africa needs is another mini-State that will be full of poverty and suffering needing billions of dollars of foreign assistance… ». The message that they cannot count on the US government to hit their target is clear enough for those fanning the flames of a breakaway State to ignore. 
The Nagy declaration, like the already clear positions of China, Russia, UN and African Union, to name just these, align with that of the Head of State who has remained firm that progress for Cameroon and Cameroonians is found in the Republic.
