Lions Exhibit Breath-taking Performance

The volleyball Lions of Cameroon have put up a tough fight at the just ended Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship. Led by team captain, Ahmed Awal, the 14 Lions retained for the over two-week competition, finished as vice champions (Silver medal) after they were trashed by Tunisia for the second consecutive time in the final. Though they could not get the title, they at least have the qualification for the 2021 World Championship in Russia as one of their major achievements.
Out of six games played, Cameroon placed in Group C, won five. They began their journey to the top against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They trashed the Congolese team and went ahead to win all their remaining two group matches. The Lions picked their ticket into the quarterfinals right from the second group game after winning Mali. The Volleyball Lions under the command of Coach Guy Roger Nanga therefore completed the group stage on a high note, winning all three matches, grabbing nine points and topping the group. Pointers like Cédric Bitouna, Kody Bitjaa, amongst others were very fruitful in their area of play.
At the quarterfinals, Cameroon shined without blinking. The Lions fought aggressively to overcome resurgent Nigeria 3-1 sets and qualified for the semifinals. At that level of the competition, the attack and receptive strength of the likes of Didier Sali Hile, Badawe Djakode and other team mates could be lauded. The semifinal against Morocco was the deadliest of them all. Morocco threatened, but the Lions stood their grounds.
