The British High Commissioner to Cameroon disclosed this on January 25, 2022 after meeting the Minister of Finance.
Talking to the media after talks in Yaounde on January 25, 2022 with the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, His Excellency Dr Christian Dennys McClure said they discussed a range of issues, including Cameroon’s budget and finances and the United Kingdom’s engagement with the country. “Relations between our two countries are good,” he noted. “We look forward to the PROMOTE trade fair next month as an opportunity to expand our collaboration with Cameroon,” Dr McClure revealed.
Economic ties with the UK were strengthened when President Paul Biya on June 28, 2021 signed a decree ratifying the Stepping Stone Agreement towards a Bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement, earlier signed on March 9, 2021 in London. The agreement is described as “stepping stone” because some of the terms still need to be discussed. The deal allows for duty-free and quota-free access to the British market for Cameroonian products. On the other hand, Britain can export up to 80 per cent of its products to the Cameroonian market duty-free.
