Smashed : All Against Alcohol, Drugs In School

Drug consumption within the school circle in the country is taking an alarming proportion with devasting side effects on its consumers (students). The statistics are startling and deplorable. 
A tobacco survey carried out in the country reveals that 44 per cent of students have tried a hard substance at least once. Further statistics show that 10 per cent of youths of school age are regular consumers of drugs especially cannabis and Tramol. 
This has caused the fight against drugs and alcohol consumption to go beyond round table discussions into theatre halls, with youths playing major roles. It is within this backdrop that the “Theatre en Folie” Troupe is on a nationwide drug sensitisation tour with its theatre piece “Smashed”. The 45 minutes play is a piece directed by Bernard Wirsiy who is also as team leader of the troupe. Smashed presents three friends; Lee, Scott and Michel (all underage) who spend their evenings in the park instead of engaging in their homework. Gradually, Lee introduces Scott into alcohol and drugs. Scott is pushed by peer pressure into accepting the offer from his wayward friend because he wants to “be a man”.  The advice Scott and Michel get from their class teacher falls on deaf ears. Lee ends up drunk and finally fails his exams. Michel who wanted to become a model ends up with a scary face as a result of trying to separate a fight between her two drunk friends Lee and Scott.
