Cholera Outbreak : Vaccination Campaign Underway

The Door to door campaign that was launched in the Littoral region will run from the 8-12 of April 2022.
A free vaccination campaign to stop the spread of the cholera disease has been launched in the Littoral region. The campaign that was set in motion on Friday, April 8 2022 is coming at a time when the region has already registered 30 deaths from the diseases. There has been a cholera outbreak in the region since November 2021 and since then the government has been carrying out different measures to curb the disease. Recently new cases were reported in the Bonassama, New Bell, Melong, Bangue, Nylon, Deido and Boko Health districts. With the rapid rate at which the disease was spreading, the government has gone ahead to vaccinate both children and adults in the above health districts. According to the Regional surveillance Officer at the Regional Delegation of Public health James Longsi, the campaign will also involve the search for new cases, sensitization, and door to door campaign. He added that the vaccination team will be accompanied by a community mobiliser for identification purposes.
While officially launching the campaign at the Bangue health district, the Chief of division for regional development in the littoral governor’s office Gabriel Dimani Balla called on the population to collaborate and turn out massively to receive the vaccine. He was optimistic that the campaign will go a long way to reduce the cholera infections rate. He said they have been 30 cases of death in the region and he, therefore, cautioned the population to respect basic hygiene rules
