African Scrabble Championship : Cameroon Grabs Six Medals

Some 80 athletes from 14 countries took part in the competition that ended in Yaounde on May 17, 2022.

The sixth edition of the Francophone African Scrabble Championship rounded off at the Olembe Stadium on Tuesday May 17, 2022. Some 80 athletes from 14 countries on the continent took part in the competition oragnised by the African Scrabble Confederation.  It was the first time Cameroon was hosting the competition since it was launched in 2016. 
For this year’s editions Cameroon fielded ten players. For close to two weeks the players competed in the classic, Blitz, Elite and pairs. It was a stiff competition for the players who were out to secure victories. In one of the main halls at the Olembe Stadium was the final of the African Challenge. The audience watched keenly as two players form words on a square board placed on the centre of a table. Silence was the watch word as a lot of concentration was needed. The only noise that could be heard was that of tokens that were used for the game. The atmosphere was tense as that was the last final of the competition.
