The U17 Lionesses were humbled 4-1 by Tanzania on Sunday May 22, 2022 in the first leg last round qualify that took place at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
Cameroon’s chances of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in India are gradually dwindling. The U17 Lionesses were humbled 4-1 by the Serengeti Girls of Tanzania on Sunday May 22, 2022 in the first leg last round qualifier that took place at the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium. It was a tough encounter for the Lionesses who rather expected to have an easy game giving their past successes in the other qualifiers.
It all started poorly for the U17 Lionesses as the visitors opened scores at the second minute after takeoff through Zainabu Aly. Bernardette Ngaseh Mbele equalised for Cameroon at the 30th minute. However, Clara Cletus Luvanga scored the second goal for Tanzania three minutes after. That was not the end as the striker scored two more goals in the second half. Her three goals give Tanzania a greater advantage over the U17 Lionesses. Clara Luvanga is at the moment the top scorer in the qualifiers with seven goals. Prior to the start of the second half, the appearance of Clara Cletus Luvanga raised concerns but that did not change the situation.
