Projects to Improve Lives, Traffic Near Completion

Road rehabilitation, improving city drainage, refilling open drains and constructing gutters on them are few of many projects by the Douala City Council.

The Mayor of Douala City Council visited construction sites of road, drainage and fish landing facility on May 26, 2022. Roger Mbassa Ndine, who expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work so far carried out, also visited refilled open drain at Logbessou on the outskirts of Douala. 
He said they are ready for the next rainy season as over 75 per cent of work has been carried out. The projects, once completed, will benefit the population through improved living, profitability and traffic fluidity. For example, there used to be high congestion on roads at Japoma and Nyalla (project sites) and poor drainage at in areas of Nyalla Chateau, where construction of a 600-metre drain is underway.
“We have got the views of workers on challenges they are facing in the execution of the projects and have given instructions for the final stage of construction works so that they respond adequately to the need of the population. Much, in terms of execution of the projects, has been carried out. In a few months work will be over,” the Mayor said.   
However, a new problem is cropping up at Logbessou as some now mine sand from the project site exposing it to another imminent episode of erosion.
