Douala III : Calm Returns at Ngodi Bakoko

This follows a meeting between the DO and contestants of a court decision to demolish all houses and any other structures over 160 hectares of illegally inhabited land.

Serenity has regained the locality of Ngodi Bakoko in the Douala III Subdivision. Life and living has been going on normally, traffic flow as usual and businesses are open as it used to be before July 5, 2022. This follows a meeting between the Divisional Officer (DO), Ayissi Mvogo, and a portion of the population of Ngodi Bakoko who have either illegally been living or invested properties on the 160 hectares plot of land. The one-point meeting was to resolve the misunderstanding.
The resistance according to the Do was fuelled by both fear of losing properties and comfort and misperception of a court ruling for an administrative decision. Therefore, during the crisis-resolution meeting, he made it known to them that the demolition follows a decision of court, not his. Even before this this resistance, some 5,000 metre square of the 160 hectares had been demolished some days ago. It was when machineries drove to the area this second time to complete the demolition that the illegal inhabitants resurfaced amass and mounted road blocks. The demolition has halted as a result. 
The DO told Cameroon Tribune that the contested plot of land consists of some 160 hectares, whose owner had dragged its illegal occupants to a local court. The court gave him a favorable verdict this year (ten years after) as well as issued an order for the illegal occupants to quit and all structures constructed on it to be demolished.
