Rugby Cup of Cameroon : Red Dragon Lift Trophies

Red Dragon Rugby Club of Douala emerged overall winners of the 2022 edition of the Rugby Cup of Cameroon and the national rugby XV championship that took place at the Olembe Annex Stadium A in Yaounde on Saturday August 27, 2022. Organised by the Cameroon Rugby Federation, the competition brought together the best teams from across the country. The competition unfolded in the men and women’s categories. It was another opportunity for inhabitants of Yaounde and its environs to discover new techniques in the sport and also for other young aspirants to develop interest in rugby. Three top matches were on programme.

In the men’s final, Red Dragon Rugby Club of Douala beat AS Espoir Rugby Club of Yaounde 13-05. It was a grueling encounter that kept fans on their feet shouting and cheering the players. Red Dragon RC dominated the game from the start and scored three points in the first half. Both sides put up a good show but lost their chances and so went on break on a 3-0 score in favour of Red Dragon RC.

On resumption Espoir put a strong fight but lost a penalty. Red Dragon RC on their part were able to score two penalties which gave them six additional points. They later got a tray and lost the transformation giving them a total of 13 points. Espoir RC got their first try (5points) and lost the transformation.
