Official Languages : Evaluation Underway

The exercise by the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism seeks to spur the use of English and French as equal in public institutions.
A delegation of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (NCPBM) is in Douala to monitor and evaluate the use of the two official languages, which consists of the effective use of English and French in public institutions.
The mission of the eight-man delegation, led by former Minister Ama Tutu Muna, arrived Douala on Sunday, October 2, 2022, but began holding discussions with authorities of the Littoral Region led by Governor Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua on Monday, October 3, 2022, to plan ahead for the work with their institutions. Other participants were regional and municipal council representatives and representatives of government delegations of the different sectors of the national life.
The Governor expressed his appreciation of the activities of the Commission and promised his full collaboration for the accomplishment of the objectives of the visit. He urged the management of all the institutions concerned with the evaluation to give their contributions readily.
The delegation’s activities, which ends on Friday, October 7, 2022, include monitoring and assessing the effective implementation of the national policy on official languages, raise greater awareness among regional and municipal authorities on the existence of the law No 2019/019 of 24 December 2019 on the promotion of official languages in Cameroon, assess the effective use of English and French as two official languages of equal status through signposts, documentation, information dissemination, and raise awareness on the dangers of hate speech a...
