South West : Minister Elung Donates To Farmers

Farmers in Bangem, Tombel and Nguti in Kupe Muanenguba Division of the South West Region are overwhelmed with joy as they received a variety of agricultural equipment and inputs. The consignment donated by the Minister, Assistant Secretary General at the Presidency, Elung Paul Che, an elite of the Division have been handed to the beneficiaries (mainly farmers’ organizations). In Bangem, headquarters of Kupe Muanenguba, the Senior Divisional Officer, Ekema William Mungambe handed the equipment and inputs to some 12 Farmers Common Initiative Groups (CIGs) with two coming from Nguti Sub-Division due to their proximity to Bangem. While handing over the materials, the SDO enjoined the farmers to take advantage of the equipment to increase agricultural production. He saluted the gesture of Minster Elung stating that he has always listened to the call of his people especially those who are feeding the nation. In Tombel, the Divisional Officer, Nyam Leonard handed the materials to some 11 CIGs involved in the cultivation of both cash and food crops.
Meanwhile, the representative of the donor, Enang James Enang, Assistant General Manager of Cocoa Development Corporation (SODECAO) explained the context of the donation of the materials which were to be distributed during the envisaged visit of the Prime Minister to Kupe Muanenguba. In order to boost the event, the Minister, Deputy Secretary General at the Presidency organized several preparatory meetings and lobbied for agricultural equipment and farm inputs from different establishments. Given that the farming calendar is time bound and the fact that some of the inputs like insecticides are nearing expiry date, they decided to hand the tools to the shortlisted beneficiaries who were selected based on the available equipment and the types of crops they cultivate.
