Ring Road Project : Over 2,500 Youths To Gain Employment

This emerged during a three-day training workshop organised by the International Labour Organization on February 15-17, 2023 in Bamenda.

As preparation towards the relaunch of the construction of the Bamenda Ring Road in the North West   gears up, some 17 Councils in the region that fall within the road project have been schooled on what is expected of them by getting the young people fully involved. This was the focus of a three -day workshop organised by the International Labour Organization in Bamenda to sensitize the Mayors of the various Councils involved to go back and recruit youths, who will be trained in the public works domain. The project which is aimed at implementing activities to support the employability of young people through the Labour intensive Based (HIMO) within the framework of the support programme for the transport Sector is expected to last for three years with an estimated budget of more than a billion francs CFA.
Speaking shortly after the launching of the workshop in Bamenda, the Regional Delegate of Public Works, Ngwainmbi Paul Ayeah revealed that the HIMO approach’s aim is to support local communities, to construct and rehabilitate infrastructure, developing sustainable agriculture value chains while creating sustainable labour force. He said for them to succeed, the Councils are expected to bring out youths especially the needy and vulnerable youths who will be trained. Addind to at least 400 direct jobs and 750 indirect and induced jobs will be created.
