Stadium Violence Resurface

Recent acts of violence and barbarism in stadiums in the country continue to be the order of the day during the national football championships. As a result, many football diehards are becoming skeptical about going to the fields to watch matches as the public is becoming more and more undisciplined. 
During the 14th playing day of the MTN Elite Two league game between Unisport of Bafang and Victoria United that took place at the Bafang Municipal Stadium, referees and match officials were brutally attacked before the match ended. Fans of Unisport Bafang flew into the pitch after a 92nd minute penalty was awarded to the visiting side. The match was halted and security officials and stadium workers struggled to save the lives of match officials from the wrath of the disgruntled fans who stormed the stadium. Due to the incident, the Homologation and Ethics Committee of FECAFOOT has applied sanctions to Unisport Bafang. The Bafang Municipal Stadium has been suspended for the rest of the season. Apart from that, the club from the West Region was fined a sum of FCFA 5 million. Unisport Bafang lost the match and the three points were awarded to Victoria United.
