Play Down : Clubs Scrambling For Survival

With Dragon already mathematically eliminated in Group B, the battle at the bottom in both groups is still very open with the outfits following each other back-to-back.
Operating in the top tier championship is prestigious but it requires extra efforts to continue rubbing shoulders with the big boys. The return leg of the ongoing MTN Elite One Championship is wiring down and the fear of relegation is looming as well as the tussle for maintenance hits high gear.
Group A
In this group, everything is still open at the bottom of the table. PWD of Bamenda, Avion of Douala and Renaissance of Ngoumou occupy the last three seats with 18 points each; two below eight-placed Djiko. The 2020 league winners and 2021 Cup of Cameroon champions, PWD Bamenda are close to returning to Elite Two if their current situation on the league table does not better off. The Abakwa boys sit just above the relegation zone (9th) and if the championship was to end at this stage, the club will be forced to play the play down game. But to avoid this situation, the Bamenda-based club that has won just one of its last five matches will have to properly negotiate its last four matches to stay in the first division. They have an axe to grind with playoff potential candidates like Canon and Coton Sport as well as potential fellow clubs that could be relegated; Renaissance and Avion. Nonetheless, Avion that equally have four matches left will be leaving no stone unturned just like Renaissance with three matches left. It should be said that the three bottom-placed clubs are equally just three points below sixth and seventh placed Colombe and Aigle. These minor point differences make the last playing days more complex as any mistake will be paid for woefully.
Group B
