Modernising Tiko Airport : Misselele Chosen As New Site

Works to give the region a befitting airport will begin at the new site in the near future.

The rehabilitation of the Tiko airstrip announced by the Head of State last 31 December, 2022 in his 2023 New Year address to the nation has been shifted to a new site at Misselele in Tiko Sub-division of Fako in the South West Region.
The Regional Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, inspected the Misselele site last week accompanied by officials and head of the airport rehabilitation committee, Mr. James Meyo representing the General Manager of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) as project owner.  It is planned that Misselele will be a modern airport requiring some 1,000 hectares of security, safety and utility space for the landing of bigger carriers like the B737-700 giving the South West Region what the President of the Republic intended as a befitting aviation jewel.  
As the Governor explained last June 7, 2023 at a meeting in the Tiko Council hall before moving to the site, field reports revealed that the old Tiko airstrip site could not be conveniently and technically rehabilitated to meet the standard of a modern airport envisaged by the Head of State for the region. Reasons advanced included the poor geographical uneven terrain for a proper runway and the less spacious environment for bigger aircrafts.
