The Head of State and his accompanying delegation’s presence at the St Petersburg’s conclave speaks volumes of Cameron’s desire to promote win-win international cooperation.
With a strong delegation led by the Head of State, President Paul Biya, at the discussions that officially begin today, 27 July, 2023, it is expected that attention will be on envisaging a new approach to Russian-African cooperation through a variety of formats on themes that reflect current issues in international relations. These are topics like the new world economy, security, scientific development, technical and technological cooperation, culture, humanitarian and social actions among others. Of course, no one doubts the fact that the 2nd Russia-African Summit is taking place in a tense international context where the war between Russia and Ukraine has exacerbated latent or real division within the international community. The force of law and the supremacy of powers are pitted against each other with the formation of blocs and alliances, the decline of developing economies, inflation caused by rising food and oil prices, and the worsening social inequalities and poverty in Africa. These are all consequences which President Paul Biya has over the years pointed to the dangers of war saying such setbacks will almost always indicate hardship for peoples across the globe.
