Bamenda Killings Bafoussam : Population Organises Protest Match

West Regional Governor, Awa Fonka Augstine led the peace match on July 26, 2023 that denounced various barbaric actions in the restive North West and South West Regions.
Following the killing of some 10 persons and two wounded in Bamenda on the night of July 16, 2023 by armed fighters, the population of Bafoussam led by the Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine have carried out a peace match and prayed for the return to normalcy. The match comprised representatives from Anglophone communities from the North West and South West Regions in Bafoussam took part of the match. All eight speeches delivered by the representatives of the Nso, Boyo, Winbum, Manyu and Bamileke communities as well as Southwest representative in Bafoussam was clear indication that the killings within the context of the ongoing socio-economic crisis affects everyone and thus collective efforts are needed to bring the barbaric actions to an end for sustainable peace to be a reality. Dressed in black, typical of a mourning mood, they carried peace plants in hands, each condemning activities of the separatist fighters since 2017 when the situation took a bloody twist.
Governor Awa Fonka Augustine, said government’s policy and objective is to protect its population, and support lasting peace for sustainable development to be attained as highlighted in the National Development Strategy 2030.
