2023 Women World Cup : Two African Teams In Second Round

The Super Falcons of Nigeria and South Africa have moved on to the next stage. Morocco still has hopes while Zambia have been knocked out of the competition.

Despite the timid start, the African representatives have got up from slumber and have moved up to the second round of the competition. African teams are shining in the competition in Australia and New Zealand as all the 32 countries are seeking to win the biggest prize in women’s football. Two African teams have already qualified for the round of 16.
Nigeria have qualified for every World Cup, and even though they had a difficult group with Australia, Ireland, and Olympic champions Canada, the Super Falcons have past the group stage. They are yet to lose in the tournament with a surprise victory over Australia, coupled with two 0-0 draws against Ireland and Canada. The Bayana Bayana of South Africa have qualified for the second round of the tournament after they beat Italy 3-2 in their last group G game yesterday August 2, 2023. The South Africans have played well, only losing to Sweden on a 90th minute goal, and pulling a 2-2 draw with Argentina in a match in which the South Africans held a 2-0 lead.
