Live : Kenya Begins On Good Footing

The Malkia Strikers beat the Amavubis of Rwanda (3-0) in their first outing at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex yesterday August 16, 2023.

The Malkia Strikers of Kenya have begun their title hunt at the ongoing 2023 Women’s African Volleyball Championship on good footing. They beat the Amavubis of Rwanda 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-17) in their first outing at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex yesterday August 16, 2023. It was an exciting encounter as each side was determined to have the first victory in their group. The match was the second of the day in group B that took place at the Multipurpose Sports Complex.  
Kenya came in as favourites with nine titles against Rwanda who are making their fourth appearance in the competition. The Kenyans began the first set in a rather timid mood giving Rwanda a chance to open scores. However, Kenya was able to pick up fast and took the lead. The Kenyans won the first set 25-16. The Rwandans came up stronger in the second set with well calculated blocks that almost saw them go above their opponents but they were however held back by the Kenyans who demonstrated their superiority in sport and won the set 25-20. The third set was equally highly competitive as the Rwandans were bent on winning at least a set. The Kenyans were however more tactful and won the set 25-17.
