The nine-time champions defeated Nigeria 3 sets to 0 in the quarterfinals yesterday August 22, 2023 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

The nine-time champions of the Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship won the game 3 sets to 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-11) to sail to the semifinals of the competition. A contrary result could have been a surprise but as expected, the Kenyans who were favorites easily overpowered their opponents.
Kenya got the first point of the first set and the Nigerians responded immediately. But the response did not persist as they watched the Kenyans score more points. When the likes of Sharon Chepchumba and Mercy Moim jetted up, a point is often counted. Despite the efforts from the Nigerians, the Kenyans still carried the day, 25-14. During the second set, the Nigerians improved a little, but the Kenyans were too strong. Some good serves from Nigeria’s Usman Aliyat worked in favour of her team. The support and encouragement from Head Coach, Samuel Ajayi equally propelled them in scoring more points. Despite all, Kenya again took the set 25-17.
