Cameroon-Japan : Growing Prospects

Relations between Cameroon and Japan are amicable with brighter prospects in the horizons. Cooperation ties are constantly reinforced with the President of the Republic, Paul Biya having granted a farewell audience to the Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, Takaoka Nozomu, on January 9, 2023, who has come to the end of his diplomatic assignment in Cameroon. Besides reviewing bilateral relations between the two countries and achievements during the tenue of the Ambassador, the two personalities also projected into the future. 
The audience at the Unity Palace served as another springboard in fostering exchanges between these two countries who already collaborate in different sectors. At the political level, there have been several high-level working visits. In April 2010 for example, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon was in Japan and this led to the creation of the Japanese-Cameroon parliamentary friendship group. Within the framework of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions, Japan was the first partner country of Cameroon to have supported the initiative. Through a financing agreement, Japan made available two million, 750 thousand US Dollars (approximately FCFA 449 million) for the construction of potable water and health facilities in Fako Division, South West Region. 
Trade relations between the two countries are governed by the rules of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
