Mount Cameroon Race Of Hope : Kenyan Athlete Dies After

While on the line to collect his participation fee, Charles Ken Kipsang, collapsed at Molyko Omnisports Stadium and gave up the ghost before reaching Buea Regional Hospital.
The unfortunate news which came like a hurricane swept through journalists in front of the Molyko Omnisport Stadium who were chilling after a busy day of reporting and parading the race course. The sad news indicated that a Kenyan athlete who effectively completed the 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope had died. His name is Ken Kipsang Charles Kipkorir. The said incident was later on confirmed to the press by Bernard Okalia Bilai, South West Governor.
Ken Kipsang was standing on a line in Molyko Omnisport Stadium (completion point of the race) to collect his participation fee after the race. He collapsed and a medical team quickly attended to him. In the process of transferring him to Buea Regional Hospital in a medicalised ambulance, he died before ever reaching there.
Okalia Bilai explained that Ken Kipsang had led the race from the Molyko Omnisport Stadium to the Mountain and back. That he was only overtaken some 20 minutes to the finish line at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium. That he had a malaise which caused him to stop. But it took him sometime to continue the race. “As he was heading the race to the finish line, the media reported that he was the first and we expected him to win the race. But we did not see him upon arrival as first and asked of his whereabouts. He eventually came afterwards.
