Oscars 2024 : “Oppenheimer” Sweeps The 96th Academy Awards

The Hollywood’s biggest event took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 10, 2024.
It was an explosive night at the 96th annual Academy Awards, with the biopic Oppenheimer directed by Christopher Nolan going home with the most trophies. Outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, protesters took advantage of the spotlight to call attention to the deadly conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine while inside the auditorium, actors and artists also used their wins to call for peace, through various nominated films. The event was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and marked the culmination of months-long awards season that has seen plenty of florals, cut-outs, sequins and sheer gowns.
With 13 nominations, the “Oppenheimer” was the frontrunner in the ceremony. And it made good on early predictions about its Oscar success, with seven wins in major categories. “Oppenheimer” started the night slowly but quickly built momentum, grabbing some of the ceremony’s biggest prizes. Robert Downey Jr scored the first win of the night with the much-expected Best Supporting Actor trophy in the movie “Oppenheimer.” His co-star Cillian Murphy won the Academy Award for best actor in a leading role in the same movie. “Oppenheimer” also delivered a long-awaited win in the Best Director category for Christopher Nolan. During Sunday’s ceremony, not only did Nolan grab Best Director, but his wife, producer Emma Thomas, took the stage with him to receive the Best Picture honour, the most-coveted trophy of the night. “Oppenheimer” also took home the Academy Award for Best Original Score, Best Cinematography and Editing.
The movie “Poor Things” and “The Zone of Interest” also performed well, with four and two prizes, respectively. &...
