At the stand of the National Association of Banana Plantain Producers, the President, Samuel Tony Obam Bikoue revealed that their goal is to make plantain Cameroon's leading export by 2035. “Our mission is to add value to the banana value chain”, Tony Obam underscored. While noting that the association is the official sponsor of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon Tribune, Tony Obam said the event is an opportunity to showcase what the association produces out of plantain or banana. Hence, on the exhibition table, visitors could see and taste wine, whisky, cake and flours made out of plantain. Evidently, visitors could also see plantains and plantain chips on display. With six million actors in the sector, 28 million consumers in the country, Tony Obam says the association is working towards applying the government’s National Development Strategy by 2030. With Industrial clusters already set up in Ngomedzap in the Centre Region, Kribi in the South Region, Yokadouma in the East Region and Bamenda in the North West Region, the association is bracing up to supply one million tonnes of plantain to Nigeria next year. Right now, preparations are on the way for the third edition of the International Plantain Festival, this year in Douala and Yaounde.
