Protecting Children : Regional Approach Planned

This was during the launch of the second phase of the programme for the protection of children and adolescents within Douala II and IV.
In Douala, children are victims of all forms of abuse and neglect, including trafficking, bondage, sexual violence, corporal punishment and exploitation. Douala is not only a transit city for human trafficking, but also a source and destination for women and children trafficked for exploitation, despite the many national and international laws in place. Children, girls in particular, are sexually abused on a daily basis, and the number of street children is steadily increasing. To help improve the situation, a project has been launched to protect children's rights. The "Regional Approach for the Protection of Children and Adolescents" programme was launched in Bonaberi Douala on 23 July.
The three-year programme will support 560 children and 100 foster families to improve their living conditions and better protect children. The project, which is in its second phase, is being implemented for the first time in Cameroon by SOS Villages d’Enfants. The project will see the targeted beneficiaries receive training on children's rights, and the caretakers of the vulnerable children will also receive economic empowerment, enabling them to engage in lucrative activities that will allow them to provide for their families, among other things.
