Gender Equality, Sexual Health : Opinion Survey Shows Startling Results

The results were presented to the public recently in Yaounde within the Pan-African organisation “Afrobarometer” study that gives a voice to the people.

According to an opinion study carried out by a private firm in the country, more than 50 per cent of Cameroonians believe that a woman who chooses to terminate a pregnancy should be sent to prison. However, the majority of respondents still believe that it is justified to terminate a pregnancy if the woman's health is over 80 per cent at risk or if the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest, and not due to economic difficulties or for any other reason whatsoever. This is part of the results of an opinion study on “Gender Equality-Health, Sexual and Women’s Reproductive Health and Rights presented to the public last Thursday, July 25, 2024 in Yaounde.
Speaking to Cameroon Tribune, the head of the investigative team, Eric Ileng said the results are within the phase 10 of the Afrobarometer organisation survey. Afrobarometer, he revealed, is a Pan-African organisation under the slogan: "Giving a voice to the people”.
