General Hospital : 22 Knees Operated

This was during a week-long campaign organised by the hospital with experts from the USA.

On Saturday, 17 August, the curtains dropped on a week-long campaign to perform orthopaedic surgeries on patients suffering from knee problems and injuries. The campaign, which took place at the Douala General Hospital from the 12th to the 17th of August, was led by a team of doctors from Cyahilic Incorporated in the USA. In a week, the team of specialists saw patients suffering from knee problems and 22 were successfully operated upon. According to the team leaders from Cayhilic incorporated, Dr. Peter Kima and Dr. Marie Alixe Kima, after their visit to the hospital last year, the Director of the Douala General Hospital expressed the need for transfer of expertise in knee orthopaedic surgery, so they went and mobilized and brought in expertise for the just concluded campaign.  They added that their mission was also aimed at transferring knowledge, expertise and technology to local staff so that they could continue the surgery after the campaign. For them, the transfer of knowledge, expertise and technology will be a continuous process as they will continue to visit and organise online meetings as cases come in. One of the specialists on the team, Dr Gregory Stocks, revealed that they had brought the same technology they used in the US. He and his team have been willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that local doctors are comfortable performing knee orthopaedic surgery.
