Holiday Activities : Sharing Bakoko Moungo culture

For a month, children learned about different aspects of their culture.
Curtains dropped on Saturday, August 24, 2024 on a month-long programme to teach young people from Bakoko, Moungo their mother tongue and other aspects of their culture. For a month, the children learned about their traditional dress and how to tie the "sanja" wrapper, "anguihi" headscarf. How to prepare their traditional meals, how to express themselves comfortably in the Bakoko Moungo language, how to do their hair in a traditional way and some traditional games to name but a few.
The month-long cultural holiday programme under the theme: "Timan a Tan" (Going back to our roots) was organised by the people of Bakoko Moungo with the aim of passing on the culture to the younger generation so that they do not stray from their roots. In children and young people, participation in culture helps develop thinking skills, builds self-esteem and improves resilience, all of which improve educational outcomes. Reasons why the coordinator of the holiday cultural programme, Madam Grace Eyoum-Mbappe, explained that it is important for the younger generation to embrace their culture. She added that the cultural holiday programme is a product of the "Timan a Tan" programme, which to revitalise the Bakoko Moungo culture and ensure that the younger generation masters their culture.
For her, culture provides individuals with a sense of identity and belonging. It includes shared beliefs, values, customs and traditions that help people understand their place within a community.
