Safety and Mobility : Passenger’s Interest In The Spotlight

Information indicates that travelling in Cameroon can be a source of stress or worry. Whether the challenges related to road safety, insufficient infrastructure or mistrust between stakeholders and clients, passengers are not sure to reach their final destination safe and sound. Such obstacles need to be overcome for travelling is much more than just a trip, but also an economic activity which can contribute to the touristic development of any country.
It is within this back drop that on Sunday, January 19, 2025, stakeholders from the transport sector rounded off a three-day discussion which addressed challenges of travelling in Cameroon and how to make the sector a real lever for economic growth. Discussions, which took place within the first-ever forum in Cameroon dubbed: “Salon du voyageur”, presided at by the Minister Delegate to the Ministry of Transport, Njoya Zakariaou. It brought together all the players in the travelling ecosystem around a common goal: to improve the safety, quality and reliability of travelling in Cameroon. In spite of government’s actions in improving travelling conditions in the country, the Minister Delegate lamented that travellers are still faced with difficulties and stress. Hence, the government feels concerned. This is the reason why the Ministry of Transport mobilised in order to improve travelling conditions in Cameroon. Minister Njoya Zakariaou explained that the promoter of the forum understood that travelling is not limited to simple movement. “Her leadership should inspire not only participants at the forum, but also all Cameroonians who dream of seeing Cameroon occupy a prominent place on the African tourism and economic scene”, he underscored.
