Newborn Dumped In Pit Toilet : Jail Term Hangs Over Perpetrator

The Police said she will be put at the disposal of the State Counsel immediately she is discharged from the Buea Regional Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
24-year-old Tanisla Uya is the lady who admitted to the Police to have dumped her newborn in a pit toilet in Bokwango in the early hours of January 15, 2025. The latrine picked-up child who has not been named yet is her second child. Nurses at the Buea Regional Hospital indicated that Tanisla Uya’s first child is one year four months.
Barrister Abang Grace Anitoh Negbor pointed to Section 282 of the Penal Code which talks of desertion of incapable, sanctioning such act. Sen Suzanne, Chief of Social Action Service at the Buea Regional Hospital, said the action of Tanisla Uya is criminal. She said they have opened investigations to know the reasons for such barbaric act on the child. At the end, they will submit their report to the State Counsel. While waiting for justice to take its course, the child will be placed in an orphanage. She pointed out that the family of Tanisla Uya has a right to claim the child. But the family will be investigated to be sure they can actually care for the child. The Police described Tanisla Uya’s action as infanticide. That immediately she regains her health, she will be placed at the disposal of the State Counsel for justice to take its course.
