Victoria United : Fuss Over Alleged Sequestration

The family of the player has reportedly filed a complaint against the club president although a video of the goalie saying he is in good shape circulates on social media.

Social media platforms have been awash these last 48 hours with news of an alleged “detention” and torture of Victoria United’s goalkeeper, Eric Parfait Djomeni Fokam by the club president, Valentine Nkwain over claims of match-fixing.  The news made a fuss as it sparked off debates and prompted reactions from various angles. First, the purported mother and legal guardian of the player, Catherine Reine Bakam, in an outburst interview with a Douala-based TV station held that she saw her son in ‘custody’ when she visited Limbe following a distress call from the player.  She claimed in the interview that her son was visibly tortured and was refused access to meet with him. Meanwhile, the family, acting through the Djemeni Law Firm, has filed a complaint to the second Joint Gendarmerie Region in Douala (with territorial competence over the Littoral and South West Regions). The complaint against President Nkwain accuses him of illegal detention and torture of the goalkeeper.
On their part, the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers (SYNAFOC) has also reacted through a press release issued on February 25 by its Secretary General, Daniel Blaise Ngos, condemning the alleged actions of the Limbe-based football club. SYNAFOC expressed indignation on what it described as degrading and inhuman practices. However, Victoria United management has denied all allegations levied against the club and its president.
