SONARA : Imminent Reconstruction

While receiving New Year wishes from the staff in Limbe on February 27, 2025 the Director General of the company announced that the contract has already been awarded.
The reconstruction and rehabilitation project of the National Refining Company (SONARA) is afoot. Though the commencement date was not given, the Director General, Harouna Bako, has revealed that the contract for pre-project studies has already been signed. The announcement was saluted with a thunderous applause from the staff members of the company and some partners who attended the ceremony to present 2025 best wishes to the boss. The declaration was one of the high moments of the occasion as the company’s refinery activities were halted since the fire incident of May 31, 2019. SONARA has thus been limited to trading of refined oil to meet up with its current operational activities. Another important declaration was the victory of SONARA in the London High Court against one of their trading partners, Sahara Energy last December. The personal involvement of the Director General who is a super-scale magistrate and some other staff was saluted as it avoided the company from losing a colossal sum of FCFA 100 billion.
Despite the difficult financial situation following the crisis, salaries of staff, according to the Director General, have never been delayed. This, Mr Harouna Bako expressed gratitude to the government for actions taken and directives given for the survival of the company. However, he regretted that while the government and management are battling for the resumption of refining activities, some staff have demonstrated nefarious work attitude. On this note, he enjoined the entire staff to embrace team spirit, entrepreneurial culture, solidarity and individual and collective responsibilities in order to surmount the main challenge of the company in 2025 which remains reconstruction and rehabilitation.
