Local Governance : Muyuka Council, Users For Better Collaboration

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator for the South West explained what is expected from each party for improved services during a recent meeting.

A town hall meeting at the Muyuka Council hall on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, provided a platform for frank dialogue between Muyuka Council and users of its services. It was initiated by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (OPIC) for the South West Region. In attendance were administrative authorities of Muyuka Subdivision headed by the Divisional Officer, religions and traditional leaders, traders, bikers association, among others. 
Fongu Bernard, who represented the Public Independent Conciliator, said OPIC is out to ensure that councils best serve their users throughout the region. “The mandatory mission of OPIC is to settle disputes between councils and their users amicably. The ultimate objective is to promote local governance,” he explained.  
In his exposition, Ekellem Desmond Mbong, resource person, traced the genesis of the office through the Major National Dialogue of September 30, 2019. He outlined the missions of OPIC with the principal one being amicable settlement of disputes between councils and users of their services.
