Afrédit Publishing House : Reviving Africa’s History Through Literature
A ceremony to launch the start of a new era in publishing African books was held on February 28, 2025 in Yaounde.
Various books written by African authors were on display during the four-hour exchange between panelists and attendees of the event organized by Africaine D’Editions (Afrédit). The discussions focused on the issues surrounding the new African narrative and how stories from the continent can be told authentically, irrespective of the influence of modernization on the continent. During the ceremony, the panelists highlighted one of Afrédit’s publications; “Le Testament de Charles” written by Christain Eboule, as a glaring example of a literary piece that evokes past struggles of African soldiers, through the story of an unsung hero who died fighting for the French colonial army during the second world war.
The publishing Director of Afrédit; Arthur Pango, emphasized the institution’s role in preserving African history and culture through the books they publish. “Modernization will not affect Africans if they continuously read books that remind them of their origin. And as a publishing house, we have the duty of putting out content that displays our values to the rest of the world,” he explained.
