Recurrent Security Challenges in Ayos : Specialised Operation Producing Results

The locality of Ayos in the Centre Region has for the past two months experienced some security challenges. Located on the National Road No 10, the area links the East Region, and serves as a transit road to Chad and the Central African Republic, making it highly activite, and therefore prone to security challenges. In an effort to ensure the safety of persons and property, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence instructed the initiation of a specialised operation to fish out perpetrators of such unlawful acts that instil fear amongst the population. Under the supervision of the Legion Commander of the Centre Region, Colonel Ottoulou Jean Pierre, the “Spider Operation” was launched on Friday January 17, 2025. The specialised four-day operation in the nooks and crannies of Ayos and its neighbouring villages ended yesterday January 20, 2025, and witnessed the arrest of about 126 persons. As explained by the Akonolinga Company Commander, Major Housseini Hamadou, who also presented some of the elements seized, subsequent decisions (future detention, liberation or transfers to Yaounde and other areas), will be taken based on responses provided during the questioning.
As per the items confiscated, they include hard drugs of various categories, military elements, medications sold illegally, weapons and moto bikes (about 68).  “For this operation, which is taking place in Nyong and Mfoumou Division and particularly in Ayos and the surrounding localities, we have named this operation "spider".
