Frequency Interferences: Cleanup Exercise Nears End

An inter-ministerial committee has been working, especially on the Mount Mbankolo transmission site, to reduce jams by the end of March 2019.
Radio frequency jams in the country are legion and government is poised to change the tide. A cleanup exercise of frequency interferences which was launched some two years ago is soon nearing its end, according to Ga-akeku Batholomew, Sub-director of Spectrum Management at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL) and member of the Inter-ministerial Committee for the Allocation of Frequency Bands (CIABAF).
Frequency interference and the proper allocation of radio frequencies to different operators were the major points of the 15th and 16th ordinary sessions of the Inter-ministerial Committee for the Allocation of Frequency Bands. The joint session was presided over by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Minnette Libom Li Likeng, in the presence of the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, amongst other committee members, Thursday December 20, 2018.
According to Ga-akeku Batholomew, frequency interference has been common among FM radio stations in their transmission due to the chaotic nature by which broadcasting frequencies are acquired. He said the interference often occur too amongst mobile telephone network service providers. However, in the last two years, the Sub-director of Spectrum Management at MINPOSTEL said they had launched a rigorous cleanup exercise across the country, especially on the Mount Mbankolo transmission site in Yaounde. “The exercise is far advanced and almost complete.
