Fecafoot : A New Page !

After the verdict of the Court of Arbitration of Sports, there is hope that the different football stakeholders might now work with more serenity.
For the past ten years Cameroon football has been on the rocks due to internal wrangling among members of the institution. These wrangling have not only tarnished the image of the country’s soccer because of the numerous legal battles, but have also retarded its development. For the past ten years, much money, energy and time has been spent in the long standing case between FECAFOOT and the 2009 General Assembly. Throughout these period, the institution has several times been put under provisional management committees with elections organized at the end of their mandates. But the outcome of these elections have never been satisfactory to majority of the members who have taken turns to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
But after several postponements, CAS has dismissed the case and confirmed the ratification of the convention signed between the current president of FECAFOOT and majority of the 2009 FECAFOOT General Assembly that took place in March 2022. Most of the members of the 2009 General Assembly had decided to support Samuel Eto’o in his policy of appeasement, reconciliation and reform of Cameroon football. This implied, they recognized the victory of Samuel Eto’o after the elective General Assembly on December 11, 2021.
Even though the case has been long overdue, the decision of CAS has come as a sigh of relief to the current FECAFOOT administration that is now expected to work with a lot of serenity, after going through too much hurdles with some involving the acquisition of finance to develop football in the country. Most sports analysts are of the opinion that the verdict might turned a new page in the country’s football development. With a stable administration, not only will the institution be able to woo more sponsors, but also football experts that would help hike the quality of the competition within and out of the country.
