Securing Movement of Animals : Stakeholders Brainstorm In Douala

This was during a two-day workshop organized by the FAO in the economic capital on February 6-7, 2023.
Actors involved in the field of transhumance in Cameroon, Central African Republic, and Chad met in a Sub-regional workshop to validate the intervention corridors of component two of the support programme for regional integration and investment in central Africa project (Transhumance and Pastoral Mobility) known by its French acronym PAIRIAC. The workshop to run from the 6-7 of February 2023 and aimed at refining the area of intervention of the two projects taking into account the problems identified and the conservation of biodiversity. The project by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) sponsored by the European Union is also out to reduce farmer-grazier conflict along the corridors.
The General Programme Director of the Wildlife Conservation Society Chad Dr. Dolmia Malachie emphasized that they are working to ensure that all is put in place to ensure that the movement of animals from one country to the other is secured. He added that they will ensure the operational aspect of the project which will involve the direct beneficiaries of the project which are the local communities as well as improve on the condition of the transportation of the animals. He reiterated that they will also ensure the amelioration of the lifestyles of the grazers so that they do not get into protected areas that can lead to problems.
