Doubtful Standards!

For the first time in the history of the competition, 48 countries will be vying for the most prestigious trophy. Bringing together 48 teams is what has been the major cause for concern. The 2026 World Cup itself is set to last 39 days, a week longer than the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups and ten days more than the 2022 edition in Qatar. 
FIFA ordered that clubs will have to release players for the World Cup from May 25, 2026 unless they are in a major final such as the Champions League final for which clubs will have until May 30, 2023 to allow players to join their national teams. The tournament has had 32 teams since the 1998 edition, with eight groups of four and the finalists playing seven games each. But teams reaching the summit clash in 2026 will now play eight matches in total. The 2026 World Cup will have 104 matches instead of the traditional 64 games due to the expanded format with 48 teams taking part. 
Many believe that the physical fatigue and mental burnout of players due to the congested schedule may have an impact on the performance of the players.
