Customs Performance : New Building Underway In Bamenda

Finance Minister on January 23, 2024 launched the 71st International Customs Day and laid the foundation stone for the new office building for the Customs department for the Region.
The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze for the first time in history paid a working visit to the North West Region from January 22 – 23, 2024. During his stay, the Minister launched activities marking the 71st edition of the International Customs Day to be celebrated on January 26th worldwide as well as laid the foundation stone for the construction of an ultra-modern head office for the Customs Department for the North West Region.
At the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of a state-of-the-art building for the Customs Department in Bamenda, the Chief of Sector, Epie Jerome said it is fruit of a visit paid to Bamenda in 2015 by the Director General of Customs which is aimed at easing the working conditions of the staff, modernize customs administration and improve on their performance.
The construction of the building will last some 36 months and will be carried out by Integrated Engineering Associate Company, IEA, on a surface area of 5200m2. Upon completion it will comprise offices, restaurants, parking lots, staff rooms, security control posts and three entrances.
Speaking during the launch, Minister Motaze reiterated government’s intention to accord tax exonerations to companies operating in the region considered an economic sinister zone together with the South West and Far North Regions. He said the Presidential Plan for the development of the North West demands a whopping sum of FCFA 154 billion with the objective to promote, encourage and attract economic investment in the Region. He promised better days for the Region as the security situation keeps improving.
