K-pop World Festival 2024 : Preliminary Contest Ongoing

Korean Ambassador to Cameroon, Nam Ki-Wook, chaired the Korean Music Festival aimed at promoting the Korean culture last Friday in Yaounde.

Vocalists and dancers, on Friday July 26, 2024 in Yaounde competed in a preliminary contest for a ticket to the K-pop Fusion Tour 2024 scheduled to take place in November 4, 2024 in Korea. The Korean Ambassador, Nam Ki-Wook during the event in Yaoundé expressed satisfaction for the bilateral relations his nation and Cameroon share on multiple facets including the domain of arts and culture. He equally applauded the performance of young Cameroonians who participated in the 2023 Edition as he called their performance “A passionate drive towards cohesion, diversity and true happiness in a world which is gradually sub merging into a small entity.” 
To the Korean Ambassador, the pride with which Cameroonians exhibited the Korean culture motivated him to promote K-pop 2024 in Cameroon. To that effect, he said; “There is commonality between Korean artists such as BTS, G-Dragon, Exo and Blackpink vis-à-vis Cameroonian dances such as Makossa, Njang, Bottle Dance and Ben Skin in that they bring people together, eliminate physical and psychological barriers, as culture knows no borders.” 
The Festival had six vocal competitors, six dance groups and three juries. Three best performers were retained and awarded prizes in each group, qualifying for the November K-Pop tour in Korea. Three were disqualified. Best vocalist was awarded to Marie France who had been the title holder for four consecutive years. Mintsa Alexander emerged second place while Nancy Prisca was third.
