Civil Protection, Security, Fisheries Governance : National Assembly Validates Proposed Bills

Three legal instruments were yesterday December 2, 2024 adopted at the National Assembly after general debates in the House Chamber. The plenary sitting was chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the law-making institution, Théophile Baoro.
The first legal instrument to be adopted by the legislators is the bill to lay down the rules and regulations governing fisheries and aquaculture in Cameroon. It was scrutinised in depth at the Committee on Production and Trade and defended by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industry, Dr Taiga. The document seeks to respond to the global context characterised by the desire to preserve biodiversity, protect the rights of local populations to use ecosystems and ensure sustainable, responsible and participatory management of ecosystems. Concerns raised by the MPs were clarified by the Minister. Talking about the concern on the official commissioning of the Youpwe landing point, the Minister disclosed that measures are being taken to render it operational. As for measures taken to put an end to offloading of fish products at unregulated offloading ports and the proliferation of small unregulated ports, the Minister disclosed that government is creating improved offloading points progressively. 
Another legal instrument adopted at the National Assembly is the bill to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the Agreement on Criminal Police Cooperation between Central and East African States.
