Challenges To Overcome

As the MTN Elite One Championship is set to commence this weekend, football enthusiasts in Cameroon are filled with anxiety. While the return of the one-pool system promises exciting football, several organizational and play challenges threaten to overshadow the spectacle if not managed.
Organisational Hurdles
One of the primary concerns is the late start of the championship, which could impact preparations and disrupt the overall schedule. Any delays could have serious consequences, especially considering the need to align with the CAF calendar. The preliminary rounds of continental club competitions are often scheduled for August, making it crucial to conclude the domestic league well in advance. 
The availability of suitable stadiums is another significant challenge, particularly given the demands of the one-pool system. Clubs are expected to play both home and away matches, requiring a sufficient number of well-maintained venues. However, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has assured stakeholders that they are working closely with relevant authorities to address this issue. Financial stability is essential for the smooth running of the league. The consistent payment of players' salaries is a major concern, as highlighted by the Cameroon Footballers' Union (SYNAFOC). The union has repeatedly criticized clubs for irregular salary payments, which can negatively impact player performance and morale. FECAFOOT had set 100, 000, as minimum monthly salary for Elite One players, but enforcement remains a challenge.
