North West, West Regions : Over FCFA 15 Billion Adopted To Boost Rice Sector

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Steering committee members strategized last January 17, 2025 on improving production.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Gabriel Mbaïrobe in a meeting with Steering Committee members of the Rice Value Chain Development Project, (RVCDP) strategized on improving the rice sector in the North West and West Regions. During the Steering Committee meeting in Bamenda on January 17,2025, a budget of over CFA 15 billion was adopted to boost production and productivity in these regions.
Speaking to the press shortly after the deliberations, the Minister who is the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Project said, a good number of resolutions were arrived at aimed at enhancing this sector so as to ensure that the benefits of this impactful project reach those who need it most.
The National Coordinator of the Project, Muluh Gregory Nguh, is expected to ensure the implementation of the recommendations arrived at during the Steering Committee which included, the recruitment of a contractor and the commencement of work on the project management unit which is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.
The committee members also agreed that management should lobby to get the OPEC funds and equally get funds available for commencement of project activities in the West Region.
