Mount Mbankolo Race : Lawang Moussa, Otomo Are Winners

The 14th edition of the competition took place in Yaounde on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

 

It was an exciting weekend for mountaineers in Yaounde and its environs on Saturday, January 18, 2025. The event was the 14th edition of the Mount Mbankolo Race to qualify athletes for the upcoming 30th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope that will take place on February 22, 2025 in Buea in the South West Region. Organised by the Centre Regional Athletics League, the competition brought together close to 100 athletes from Yaounde and elsewhere.  Inhabitants of Yaounde came out in their numbers to encourage the runners. The Mount Mbankolo race equally marked the opening of the 2025 athletics season in the Centre Region.
The competition unfolded in the veterans, junior and senior categories over a distance of 19km. The junior category ran a distance of 17km and the veterans’ category 10km. The athletes put up remarkable performances in their respective categories. In the senior men’s category, Lawang Moussa from the FAP Athletics Club was the winner, finishing the race in 1h08’46. He was followed by Zekang Sylvain (FAP) 1h10”08 and Amana Engoulou Marc (FAP) 1h10’48. In the women’s competition, Otomo Mendouga (FAP) won the race in 1h23’48 seconds.
