Elections Cameroon : Steady, Progressive Preparations

Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) is the main actor in an electoral process. According to the Electoral Code, they are responsible for the organisation of elections in Cameroon. To that effect, they have to ensure the material preparedness of the electoral process. 
Globally, the institution is progressing in its preparedness towards the upcoming Presidential election. A visit by Cameroon Tribune to the institution met the officials and staff working ahead of the elections. At the different ELECAM Branch Offices, voter registration is ongoing and the information being transmitted to the Regional Delegate of ELECAM who in return transmits to the Directorate General of Elections. This exercise would however stop once the President of the Republic convenes the Electoral College. Officials at the Yaounde head office of Elections Cameroon note that they are working in collaboration with various actors to ensure that an inclusive electoral register, void of errors, is produced in due course. Capacity-building workshops are also being organised to equip staff of ELECAM and other stakeholders on their roles in an electoral process. At the start of 2025, the Director General of Elections at ELECAM, Dr. Erik Essousse brought together all the Regional Delegates of the elections management body within the framework of a capacity building workshop in which specific and global objectives for the year were outlined. Members of the Electoral Board on their part have also been on the field assessing the registration exercise and encouraging improved participation from stakeholders. The Chairperson of the Board, Dr. Enow Abrams Egbe was in the North West in January 2025 on a working visit to evaluate things for himself.
